  1. Love this site. I am looking for audio of Bud Lynch anouncing a hockey game. Any ideas on if there is one available?

    1. Hi Chris, thank you for dropping by. Especially glad that you “love” our website! We’ve gotten a hold of our good friend, WWJ Red Wings reporter and RW statistician Greg Innis, who holds one of the largest Red Wings memorabilia in the Motor City – if not the entire state – Greg is going to provide us with some Bud Lynch audio gems for the website in the next week or so in lieu of your comments and request.

So be on the lookout for that as we’ll deposit it under the Detroit Sports feature in the left column on the website page. Thanks again Chris, and let others know that we are here — we’d greatly appreciate you passing the word. . . We will be adding those classic Bud Lynch RW audio you asked for very soon . . . stay tuned!

  2. What I’ve been looking for for years is George Kell’s call of Kirk Gibson’s game-winning HR off Ron Davis of the Yankees. If you can find it, I’d be grateful.

  3. Looking for radio interview between dick purtan and wayne gretzky and wayne mentions detroit slasor hockey. Interview approx. 10 years ago.
Would love to get audio copy as a gift to my father Howard slasor

    1. Mike,
When I was a kid in the late 60’s, I was a stick boy for a men’s team from Detroit called the Slasors.

Are you related to the owner of the hearing company that sponsored the team?

      Please reply to
      davyjonesy@aol.com

      Thanks, Dave

  4. I have a niece who lives in West Branch and she had posted on Facebook the Obit on Ernie Harwell today. I commented that in the early 30″s until 1951 my Dad and I listen to Harry Heilmann do his radio broadcasts. I was always amazed that He would do road games and never leave Detroit. I am wondering if WXYZ might have any of those broadcasts in the Archives that I might be able to get some copies of so I could send them to Her. I always thought that Heilmann was the very best announcer ever for baseball.

Would appreciate if you might have some. Would like the away games so she could see how he used sound effects.

    Thank You,

    Tim Kennedy

  5. I would love to hear the Stroh’s Beer Tiger’s jingle from the start of Tiger’s games on radio from the late 50’s and early 60’s on WJR.

It went something like this: (The sound of a roaring tiger…, followed by) “Baseball…, Tiger Baseball…, brought to you by Stroh’s Beer. Baseball time is pleasure time and that’s the time for Stroh’s! Give a kick, so stand up and cheer when you open a bottle of fire-brewed beer. Baseball time is pleasure time and that’s the time for Stroh’s.”

  6. Hi, I worked with George Griggs a long time ago and most of your Detroit sports songs probably came from my collection. Where Are you Now Gordie Howe is by Bob Lambert. Contact me anytime about Detroit sports music, I am always willing to share! 248-476-9459. I am a volunteer for the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame and the National Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame.

    1. Hi John, thank you so much for your expressed comments, having read several days ago. And thank you so much for your nice offer. Always looking for contributors to add new contents, and for the most part, many were kind enough to contact the website for availability of materials relating Detroit radio they may possess from their collection, and with generous offers as yours. John, you can contact me anytime by my website’s email address, here: motorcityradioflashbacks65@gmail.com Would love to see all you may want to share in regards to Detroit sports. By the way, insofar as Detroit sports, Motor City Radio Flashbacks will have an extensive, special feature commemorating the last game ever played at the Corner, the last game at Tiger Stadium, twenty years ago, and it will go up on the website on September 27, 2019. Look out for that, John, only on Motor City Radio Flashbacks! 🙂 Most of all, thank you for visiting mcrfb.com

  7. In ’95, one of the radio stations (I believe it was the one that had a morning show called “The Breakfast Club” had a songwriting contest for Tigers fans. I remember the winning song was catchy and contained a lyric that said something like, “Let’s go Tigers, Let’s Do it Again,” and it seemed like the station played it every morning throughout the ’85 season. Does anyone remember this? Does the song exist, or am I imagining it?
