  1. Hello Vaughn,

Thank you for your query. Sorry, but we don’t have that one. Here’s where we’re lacking from our collection, as we would like to have more of the R&B soul air checks from classic WCHB,WJLB and WQBH as well.

We surmise there may be other air check collectors out there, especially here in Motown, who may have many of these soul radio gems many of us listened to in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s as well.

When I was growing up here in southwest Detroit, as a “greaser,” I remember how many of us attending Woodrow Wilson Junior High in 1966, 1967, and in 1968 would listen religiously to those two soul stations on the AM dial in Detroit for the very first in R&B hits.

Stations like CKLW, WKNR and WXYZ would not play, for the most part, a majority of those R&B songs which we would find only on their playlists like several weeks later, but after WJLB and WCHB first had introduced those songs to us previously on their radio dial frequencies.

We will be in the process of trying to find anyone here in the Motor City who may have some of these classic Detroit soul station materials they may possess as part of their collection, if all else, they may want to share what they may have with us and then we’ll share them on-site right here.

And so what we will be doing shortly is post something on mcrfb to bring attention out there if anyone has anything they’d like to share on classic WCHB and WJLB please contact us at: jim@mcrfb.com or contact george@mcrfb.com

Thanks Vaughn for dropping in on us on the site, and for your comments on mcrfb.com on facebook as well.

  2. Would like to also see some of the old jingles from 106KHQ from the 80’s. They were on here before the site switched.

    Thanks,
    tweatherman

  3. Great site! Lots of jingles.
Do you have any Pams My home town jingles like the one of Detroit?
    Regards
    Dyo Lankester, Australia

  4. Can you find and feature that great WXYZ jingle from the mid-70’s “For the Weekend”? They used to start playing it around 3pm on Fridays and people loved to hear it.

“…. WXYZ makes the good times better
    Take along WXYZ
    For the weekend
    For the weekend
    For the weekend…”

  5. Can’t tell you how much I have been enjoying your sites.

I purchased a bunch of jingles about ten years ago from CKLW, WKNR and WXYZ that were on dat and moved over to cd. I would be more that happy to let you copy them to put on your site.
I’m sure you know where I got them, he just doesn’t sell them anymore.

    Bill

  6. What about WJLB in the 70’s the catch phase was WJKB the Black Giant
Also at night was the electrifing MoJo on WJLB

    1. The Black Giant radio station in Detroit was 1440 AM WCHB, PD Wade “Butterball, Jr. Briggs, Bill Williams, Ray Henderson, Jay Butler, Fred Goree, Ron White and Nat Keller on the weekends.
Soul Country 1440 WCHB SOUL RADIO

  7. I’d like to hear/see old radio and TV spots I recorded back in the 60s for Marathon Oil (gasoline) – radio vocal jingle recorded at Artie Fields Productions in Detroit; radio spots at Universal Sound, Detroit; and a TV spot for National Bank of Detroit (Simons-Michaelson ad agency)

You will likely ask for more info. . . . just let me know what you need.

    Thanks!

  8. hi there, wonderful site, I also have an aircheck jingle montage for WYCD using TMC’s Texas country, before the rw switch, plus I have the 2009 and 2013 packages for WYCD from reelworld if you’d like. also, wondering about that, you used to have all types of jingles for Michigan, from all over the area, still have that all over north Michigan. update me on that if you can.

  9. Wow! Just doing some web browsing and came across this page. That “W4 Country Top of the Hour ID (1980’s and 1990’s)” you have listed? That’s me!

The music bed is from our jingle package of that time — I produced the rest in our Production studio. Sharon Foster (Santoni) and I did the multi-tracked shouts. I did the announcing in the middle (I was the WWWW station voice from 1981-93, also the Production Director and, later, Creative Services Director).

This 9-second ID is the only online thing remaining of my radio days. Don’t lose it!!! πŸ˜€

  10. Still looking for the WXYZ “For The Weekend” jingle from 1974. It was long and they only played it from Friday until Sunday. It was so popular people requested it.

“There’s miles of open highway that’s stretching out ahead
and chances to be happy for a while.
    It’s a WXYZ weekend
    Time to get around
    Time to hear that sound
Gotta keep that sun shining through
WXYZ makes the good times better
    Take along WXYZ
For the weekend. For the weekend. For the weekend.

Tom Ryan may well remember and have a copy of this.

  11. I’d like to hear all of the Smooth Jazz V98.7 WVMV jingles from over the years. I’m originally from Ohio but lived in Michigan for a long time from 2000-2009 and grew up listening to those catchy jingles in between songs and commercials while listening to that station, which was my favorite.

    1. Got it Vaughn! Thanks for the share and I’ll see what I can do to get on the website much to your credit. Thanks again!

  12. Great memories. Do you have a WCAR jingle circa late 60s with the theme “no matter what the climate is, no matter what the time it is. It’s 11:30 in Detroit…”?

  13. did you search for the 96 Now/Hot Hits 96/Power 96 FM WHYT Detroit-Farmington jingles? i heard the jingle ID’s several times a year!

  14. Would you know where I could find the Jam Sounds Specialist jingle? They used to play it on WJLB and WGPR

  15. I would love to hear the jingle from WCAR, AM 1130. It was probably 1971 or 1972. “No matter what the time it is, no matter what the climate is, it’s 1130 in Detroit, WCAR. You’ve got Detroit turned on! “
