  1. I’m really enjoying the History of Detroit Radio because I’m old enough to remember back to the 1940s and the years following WWII. I was born and raised in Plymouth and radio was a big part of my high school days cruising with my friends and listening to the top tunes of the day on car radios. I remember a morning show in the 1940s with Ralph Bingy (sp) and Joe Gentile that my mother had turned on while I ate breakfast before school. I believe it was on CKLW. The were very funny. One of their sponsors was Conn’s Clothing Store and their skit would have them opening new boxes of the latest men’s clothes complete with the sound of the wooden crates being opened. Then they would describe the clothes as they took them out of the crate. Their Conn’s radio jungle which they always sung went something like this….”Conn’s clothes, good clothes, make people happy, try em, wear em they’re neat and snappy.” Ralph Bingy later had a disc jockey show from a station with studios in the Masonic Temple. As a Boy Scout in about 1950, I traveled by bus ( Deluxe Motor Stage along Plymouth Rd. to Oakman Blvd. then transfer to DSR) with a few
scouts from Plymouth to carry flags of various countries into the auditorium during a Kiwanis Club National Convention held at the Masonic Temple. We were then invited to go up to the studio and watch Ralph Bingy do his show. And he mentioned us on the air. Any idea what radio station broadcast from the Masonic Temple back then?
