Jerry Boulding Joins WCHB/WJZZ Detroit
DETROIT — Veteran urban programmer and personality Jerry Boulding has joined the staff of WCHB/WJZZ here in the newly created position of operations manager.
“I’m looking forward to programming one of America’s premiere jazz stations, WJZZ, “ says Boulding, who adds that the station will retainits mass appeal jazz directionfor the time being. “I foresee no immediate changes there, but I think we’ve got some very exciting things planned for WCHB, one of the country’s first black-owned stations, in spite of the fact it’s on AM,” he says.
WJZZ switched to its current modern jazz format at some point in the early 1970s. The station was formerly WCHD-FM, Detroit. END

love your site and every thing to do with WJZZ i was a devoted daily listener from day one, and cried the the day they left the air. thank god for cassette tapes i have a few station recordings that I cherish. be nice to have WJZZ jazz get together.
If there is anyway to stream past WJZZ radio programs, please consider this. There are people like myself that would love to hear them again. Detroit is in need of a replacement for WJZZ, and the listner base is still very strong for this format. Smooth jazz sucks, and people my age 50- 70 long to hear REAL jazz from the 50’s,60’s and 70’s.
I too was an avid listener. Unfortunately, I only have one station recording from 1992. It’s a gem. I need to digitize it before it gets damaged.
